  • President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order this week requiring asylum seekers to go to a legal point of entry along the border to apply for asylum, changing the policy that allows migrants up to a year after they enter the United States to request asylum regardless of how they arrived. According to officials, Trump will sign the directive before leaving for Paris on Friday. (The Wall Street Journal)
  • Trump said he thought he could reach a deal with Democrats and avoid a government shutdown in December over funding for his proposed wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. At a news conference, Trump indicated there could be a deal involving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivalsan Obama-era policy supported by Democrats that shields young immigrants from deportation. (Bloomberg)
  • Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was ousted from his job yesterday by Trump, is reportedly considering running for his old Senate seat in Alabama in 2020. The seat is currently held by Democrat Doug Jones, and Rep. Bradley Byrne is also widely considered a possible Republican contender. (Politico)
