Washington Brief

  • President Donald Trump is scheduled to make a statement today at 3 p.m. Washington time on whether to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate change agreement (The Associated Press). Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Elon Musk was among American business leaders who called for the United States to remain part of the international accord. ( Bloomberg News)
  • Former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee as soon as next week. He is expected to say Trump told him to have the FBI back off its investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia. (The Wall Street Journal)
  • The House Intelligence Committee issued subpoenas to Flynn and Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, as part of its Russia probe. (CNN)
  • Former Vice President Joe Biden is planning to launch a political action committee called American Possibilities. The PAC will help him participate in the 2017 and 2018 elections, but it also fuels speculation about his political aspirations. (The New York Times)
