Washington Brief

  • Budget negotiators reached agreement on a $1 trillion plan to fund the government through September. The measure would add money to border security, but it does not include appropriations for President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico. (CNN)
  • Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), the longest serving member of Florida’s congressional delegation, said she will not seek another term. The move opens up a seat that Democrats view as winnable. (Miami Herald)
  • Trump and Vice President Mike Pence suggested they could secure the votes needed to advance the GOP’s health care plan, but centrist Republicans are withholding their support. Trump has not set a new deadline for a possible House vote. (The Wall Street Journal)
  • In Trump’s first 100 days in office, he set a new precedent with his historic use of the Congressional Review Act to chip away at some of his predecessor’s regulatory legacy. (The New York Times)
